For all the eerie evenings of the early fall season, we created a seasonal twist on our Cold Fashion using 'Tis the Spooky Season blend and added an element of danger.
Because we don’t bottle our Spooky Season blend, you’ll need to create a cold brew concentrate ahead of time. We recommend our French Press Cold Brew recipe for ease of use, but a flash-brewed Clever Dripper really can save the day with its instant turnaround, good for when you simply become possessed by the urge to embrace the phantasmagoric. In either case, you’ll have plenty of leftover cold brew for a second round!
While we are ramping up the spookiness with our Halloween blend here, you should feel free to use any coffee you have around. Enjoy!
The Phantasm Fashioned: An Old Fashioned for Halloween
Cook / Brew Time
3 dashes Angostura Bitters
.25 oz simple syrup
1 oz cold brew concentrate (see recipe notes for more details)
1.5 oz bourbon
Ice to taste
Combine bitters, simple syrup, cold brew, and bourbon in stirring glass
Add ice and stir for 15 seconds
Strain over fresh ice
Warm orange peel and slightly singe edges with flame
Express orange peel and garnish drink
- For the cold brew coffee concentrate: We prefer a 1:8 coffee to water ratio for a strong concentrate. This means if you use 40 grams of ground coffee, you would use 320 mL of water.
