Take everything you love about naturally processed coffee from Ethiopia, add in a big dose of vibrancy, and you have this excellent coffee from Tebe Melge. Big fruitiness is matched with remarkable clarity, allowing us to get a crystal clear picture of its terroir while providing the popping fruitiness that naturals are known for. Look for the bright red notes of a dried raspberry on top, followed by a lush cantaloupe note, and a little bit of citrus tingle on the finish.
MORE INFO:
Grown in the Uraga forest region of the Guji zone, coffees from Tebe Melge used to cross the border into Yirgacheffe and be sold as such due to inadequate recognition of the quality coming from the region. Our importing partners at Red Fox helped break this trend and bring Guji into the mainstream, allowing the area to get the appreciation it deserves.
The quality is a testament to the remarkable growing conditions of the area and the attention of its members. Tebe Melge sits at high altitude, with its coffees growing from 1900 to 2300 meters. This combines with the microclimate that brings long, cool nights to the area, aiding in the slowing of cherry maturation. Tebe Melge's trees, while being fully mature, are also some of the youngest in the region.
These factors come together to make one of the tastiest naturals from Ethiopia that we have had in a long time.
About Ethiopia: Ethiopia is the birthplace of coffee. For centuries, coffee has grown freely in backyards, on small family farms, and across the countryside, cultivating thousands of unique coffee varieties. The vast genetic diversity of Ethiopian coffee creates a spectrum of flavors‚ from delicate flowers, to ripe stone fruit, to bold berries‚ making Ethiopia one of the most loved and enjoyed coffee origins in the world.
