Help Us Fund Innovative Cancer Research with World Class Local Partners
DINE FOR THE CAUSE: 9/19/2021
PEDAL THE CAUSE: 9/25 & 9/26/2021
Every year, as fall approaches, our team at Kaldi’s Coffee gets excited and steps up training for Pedal the Cause (PTC). Started in 2009 by cancer survivor Bill Koman, PTC raises funds each year for cancer research. Uniquely, 100% of donations go to fund research here in Saint Louis, through the Siteman Cancer Centers. These centers partner with Washington University Medical School to fund innovative research to eradicate all forms of cancer in all age groups.
Kaldi’s Coffee has been involved well over a decade, rising early to donate coffee for all volunteers and riders before and during the events, and contributing other financial and material support throughout the years, such as donating a portion of our cafe profits on "A World Without Cancer Day".
Joining the Ride
Three years ago, wanting to give back even more to an amazing local organization, we partnered with Companion Bakery and Big Shark to form a bike team to ride in the event. Our Vice President of Retail Operations, Keith Kildron, and Head of Marketing, Frank McGinty, have ridden every year since, along with other team members.
COVID-19 shifted PTC’s normal in-person ride to a virtual, solo, or pod ride in 2020, but in the last full event in 2019, the Kaldi’s-Companion-Big Shark team raised over $50,000 to contribute to the fight against cancer. This year’s ride returns to an in-person effort, with PTC securing Chesterfield Mall’s vast grounds as a closed circuit for cyclists. Strict COVID-19 protocols are in place to protect riders and their supporters, as some are immune compromised.
We can’t wait to see Pedal’s large support in person again, as we crush some miles for a good cause.
Dine for the Cause
Pedal the Cause’s unique ability to give 100% of contributions directly to funding cancer research takes a lot of planning and work, as every non-profit has administrative and organizational costs. Kaldi’s Coffee participates in this work throughout the year through smaller fundraisers focused on funding Pedal’s mission.
This year, in the run up to the main event on the weekend of September 25th-26th, we’ll be participating in Dine for the Cause, a one night party designed to help raise those funds that allow PTC to maintain its mission. Along with our own offerings, we’ll have amazing food from local favorites like:
- Balkan Treat Box
- Companion
- Pastaria
- Clementine’s
- Peacemaker
- Sugarfire
- Bolyard’s
- and many more!
With Brennan’s Work and Leisure providing a gorgeous events space and Rene Knott emceeing, we hope you’ll snag tickets and join us this Sunday, September 19th. Throughout the night there will also be a silent auction, a live auction, and a raffle, with items like bicycles, NHL, MLB, and NFL packages, jewelry, local restaurant gift packages, and much, much more.
