The Union y Fe cooperative in La Coipa was established in 2015 to provide social support for coffee farmers in the San Ignacio province of northern Peru. Nestled in the highlands and foothills of the Andes Mountains, Union Y Fe specializes in high-altitude organic coffees.
Farms within the Union Y Fe co-op are located in the northwest of Peru, in mountainous country above the Marañon River, the mainstem source of the Amazon River. The region is known for its stunning biodiversity, including highly sought-after products like coffee, potatoes, and chocolate.
This year’s coffee from Union Y Fe is a washed process blend of several coffee varieties, as the many farms of the co-op each grow their own type that is then combined for processing and export. In the Union Y Fe, we tasted a lovely brown pear acidity mixed in with warming spices like cinnamon, all rounded out by a smooth walnut finish.
