PROCESSING: Washed, sun dried
REGION: Monserrate, Huila
Description: Notes of baking spices in the aroma with peach, vanilla, brown sugar, and a candied orange finish.
2017 marks the tenth consecutive year we have bought coffee from our partners in
Monserrate, Colombia. It is our longest standing relationship and one of our favorites.
We visited Monserrate again in August this year where we judged in their annual “Best
of Monserrate” competition and visited the village and farms. The village itself is located
in southwest Huila along the Cordillera mountain range, near the larger town of La Plata
(two short plane rides and two bus rides from Bogota). The weather this year has been
particularly hard for the growers, and as a result, their yields are down. The quality, though,
is as good as ever. We are always amazed at how good this coffee is, year after year.
This is the 4th year we’ve bought coffee from producer Elcy Causaya. Elcy’s coffee placed
9th in the “Best of Monserrate” competition, out of around 40 entries. We were lucky
enough to visit her farm in August too, meet her family, and see how much care she puts
into her coffee. The effort she puts into each of her beans is inspiring, and we hope to
continue this relationship for years to come. Enjoy.
